No Bake Energy Balls: Healthy Snack in Minutes

If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the hunt for a new healthy family-friendly snack. Finding new recipes for your little one is an endless task.

My toddler is a bottomless pit and I’m constantly trying to keep up!

These no bake energy balls are the perfect snack for the whole family. They’re loaded with healthy clean eating ingredients, but so delicious that even the pickiest toddlers will eat them.

Toddlers are notorious for always being on the go. Getting them to sit down for meals and snacks can be a challenge.

These energy balls are the perfect grab and go snack because kids can eat them while on the move. More importantly, the no bake energy balls contain all healthy and natural ingredients!

Dietary Fat is Not the Enemy!

These no bake energy balls combine healthy fats and protein into a convenient bite-sized healthy snack. Although it’s been a dietary trend for a long time, low-fat diets are not great. Especially for young children.

Fat is a vital macronutrient for young babies and toddlers. Their brains are growing and making new connections rapidly.

Dietary fat helps this process move along more efficiently by aiding in brain and nerve development. Fat is also an important source of energy and helps the body absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K).

These no bake energy balls contain peanut butter, flax seeds, and shredded coconut which are all excellent sources of fat.

They also have oats which are high in fiber and help you stay full longer. They provide a healthy balance of fats, protein, and fiber into one delicious bite.

I always have a bag of Bob Mill’s Shredded Coconut on hand to add to cookies, smoothie bowls, yogurt, and other baked goods.

This is my favorite shredded coconut because it does not contain any added sugars and it is so delicious. Also, it is an excellent source of healthy fats.

These high protein no-bake energy balls are the perfect grab and go snack for all ages!  They are made from all natural healthy ingredients and are easy to modify for any dietary preferences!

  • 1 cup Old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup Natural peanut butter (I prefer crunchy)
  • 1/4 cup Honey (Substitute maple syrup for babies younger than 1)
  • 1/4 cup Shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup Ground flax seed
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract


  • In a medium sized bowl, combine all ingredients and stir well until sticky dough is formed.
  • Roll into 1-inch balls onto ungreased cookie sheet.  
  • Freeze for approximately 30 minutes, then enjoy.
    This makes approximately 16 1-inch balls.
    Store in refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Let’s Eat!

These no bake energy balls are so easy to adapt to personal preference or allergies. Feel free to add in other healthy fats and ingredients like walnuts, hemp seeds, chia seeds, or chocolate chips.

*For babies less than one, make sure to substitute maple syrup for honey.

Also, for a vegan version, you can swap the honey for maple syrup.

Most importantly, they’re so easy to make and don’t require any mixers or blenders!  During the busy week, minimizing dishes and cleanup is always a top priority for me and my family!

All you need to do is combine ingredients, mix well, roll into balls and let it chill.  They’re ready to eat without any baking!

    I believe you’ve shown me some variation of this before, so now I buy dates in bulk and blend everything up with peanuts and other nuts in a blender. They’re awesome in the second half of the clinic day, when my energy is low and I don’t want to eat some of the treats that are floating around the office or down a cup of coffee. Sometimes I add chocolate chip pieces… 🙂

  2. These are SOOOOO good! TOTALLY satisfies your sweet tooth. We have made these quite a few times since we found this recipe. My daughter has fun making them. She uses a cookie scoop instead of rolling them – easy to whip up in 5 minutes flat. We didn’t have the flaxseed the first time we made them but now that we do, we feel even better about this being an absolutely delicious and super healthy treat.
